Cross town rival Christian Brothers University defeated Rhodes 2-0 Wednesday night in a hard fought match at CBU's Signagio field. CBU, with an internationally flavored roster, got on the scoreboard in the 18th minute when senior midfielder Matt Werakso collected a pass in the right side of the box from junior forward Rasaq Kuteyi, turned, and fired a shot past the Rhodes junior keeper Alex Mathis. Rhodes controlled play at times in the first half and had a great chance when sophomore midfielder Allen Orgeron stole a ball off a CBU defender and was taken down from behind on an apparent breakaway at the edge of the box. No cards where issued for the offense, and senior Chase Lafont's free kick was pushed around the bar by CBU keeper Daniel Foster. In the 2nd half Rhodes appeared to have tied the game at the 78th minute when junior Tyler Rosser put in a lose ball from the top of the box from a Rhodes cross. The goal was called back as a Rhodes player was called for a foul in the box. CBU was finally able to finish the game in the 89th minute when senior Oisin Crean headed in a free kick from junior Ryan Peel. The Lynx will face Fisk University at home Sunday at 2:00pm.
